14 Noontide Petals by Tauer 2013

Top: Bergamot, aldehydes, Bourbon geranium
Heart: Rose, ylang ylang, tuberose, jasmine
Base: Patchouli, frankincense, vanilla, sandalwood, iris, styrax and vetiver

We are stuck in Narnia here in Europe. April and so damn cold. I would have preferred to have tried Noontide Petals on a gorgeous Spring day. Not a hint of Spring in sight.

About 18 months ago I ordered a Sample Set from Tauer Perfume. Five fragrances of my choice.

TauerDicoveryPhoto Stolen TauerPerfumes

After 10 days I still had no samples. I emailed Tauer Perfume, and within minutes I had an email back from Andy himself. He apologised profusely that the precious package had gone missing. He sent a replacement package himself, and registered it, and I had it 48 hours later. How nice is THAT??

Two weeks ago I mailed Andy again, on the off chance that he would send me samples of Noontide Petals. Three days later there were samples on my doorstep with a handwritten note from Andy. What a privilege. I had never tried a brand new fragrance with the intent of writing about it.

I test perfumes on Monday when I am alone in the shop preparing cookie dough. I sprayed it on with great excitement. Very sparingly because I know that Tauer´s are very intense. Shock Horror. I did not like it. Perfume Junkies, I was so upset, and angry. Yes angry. Can you imagine that? I was in a freaking bad mood the whole day. I wanted to like it so badly. I did indeed get a little bergamot. But it was short lived and left a weak soapy smell behind.

The second testing of Moontide Petals. Ah ha. I used more. Better. A burst of very bright bergamot. I could almost see the sun! It did have a swirling feel about it, kind of up and down. Bubbling aldehydes. I could understand them a bit now. (I watched a 30 minute lecture on aldehydes before trying this scent!! Never too late to learn.) Nearly glittering! OK. NOW I know, this is eau de toilette! Duh.

Third time. A man-sized spray!! Hurray! I like it. What a contrast to the first tentative mini scaredy cat spray!! This time it was so bright and light and lovely, it was another experience. After about 40 minutes, I noticed jasmine, vanilla and frankincense popping their heads up. Especially the vanilla. Suddenly there is rose. It comes and goes. I know there are other notes in there too, but I am not experienced enough (yet) to pick them out. And truthfully I don´t know if I even want to. This fragrance lasts such a long time and is so soft, and beautiful.. Yep, beautiful. Definitely not so full on as some of the earlier Tauer scents, with the well known Tauerade base. This is elegant and understated. But certainly no weakling. What I love about Tauer is their tenacity. That is why I love them in the summer. The perfect swimming scent. Because it is still there after lots of dips in the lake. Noontide Petals will be my swim scent of 2013. It is light in a bottle.

Andy Tauer is an artist, and it takes time to understand what it´s all about. Moral of the story? Don´t under spray an artist`s work, otherwise you miss half the colours!

Now, if only the White Witch of Narnia would use this, I believe it would melt the winter away. It is an alluring, appealing and an original scent for the Spring.

My all time favourite cookie is the classic chocolate chip, like Chanel it is never out of style but I do like to tweak with the addition of macadamia nuts. Oh heavenly yum…

    • Hey Luby!
There is no doubt that it is the top cookie. However many different cookies I make, they are definitely the most popular.! And oh yes, Chanel, always suitable huh? xxx

    • cookie queen says:

      Hey Luby!

Nope. Can´t ever go wrong with Chanel or a chocolate chip cookie. Just a fact of life. One of the better ones I find!! xxxx

      • Luby likes this says:

You know, the other day when I posted I could not see all the other posts ahead of me who also nominated chocolate chip cookies with macadamia nuts!! LOL. Hard to beat a classic. I baked some today, while wearing my daughter’s Arpege (she is 6 and thinks Arpege is the best!), and they were gone within an hour. I hope you did try Anzacs – they ARE delicious and perhaps a more complete eating experience than the choc chip. Half the fun of baking Anzacs is deciding whether to bake them so they are chewy, or crisp for hot drink dunking and getting the baking time just right!!

    • cookie queen says:

You my dear were the first. How could you see them all??? I am gonna try the ANZACS as soon as I get a few free minutes in the shop. Will keep you posted. I would go for chewy …. but will try both. All I can say is you had better watch out when your daughter is 16. Hugs. CQ!!!!

  2. Karly says:

Chocolate chips. Or macadamias. Hard to choose.

    • cookie queen says:

Both. Fairly clear. Although the macadamias that you get here in landlocked Austria, sadly leave a lot to be desired. But I have an awesome pecan connection. 🙂

  3. Christine W says:

Butter cookies – in particular ‘Melting Moments’ – are my favourite by miles! And I’d love to try Noontide Petals 🙂
    Thanks
    Christine

    • cookie queen says:

Melting Moments and Noontide Petals together, sound like the business. Will have to try that. Noontide Petals might be on the way to you soon. !!! xxx

  4. Great Post Cookie Queen. Loving the GIVEAWAY action too.
    You are a groovy girl
    Portia xx

  5. Sue says:

    I can’t go past a well-made, chewy ANZAC. Old-fashioned or timeless?

    • cookie queen says:

      Hi Sue!
Hmmmm. Never one to be afraid to say “I have not got a bloody clue what you are talking about!”, I found myself Googling ANZAC. Wow. Sounds totally interesting and I will try it. Golden syrup is only available through specialist stores here. But I am a specialist ….. 😉
      Cheers for the info! xxxx

      • Sue says:

Hi again, just thinking, although ANZACS are an Australian classic, if golden syrup is difficult to find, maple syrup would be fabulous, I think. And then add macadamias (native Australian nuts) … a new classic xx.

      • cookie queen says:

I will look in Salzburg in the next couple of weeks. I will then give them a go. Brilliant. Thanks for the introduction. I will need them when I open a store in Sydney. 😉

      • cookie queen says:

I am going to get the syrup in Salzburg. And then perfect this new found cookie. I will need it when I open my shop in Sydney. 😉

      • cookie queen says:

Oh crap. Posted the same thing twice. I need to get the hang of this. Sorry!!

      • Sue says:

I need to get the hang of this too, I don’t know where this reply will end up! Now, although you’re in Austria and I’m in Australia, if you Googled ANZACS you’ll know that they travel really well … good luck with them xx.

      • cookie queen says:

Well, it ended up here in my dining room after lunch. Pretty awesome. I will keep you posted as to my ANZAC developments. xxx

  6. fleurdelys says:

My favorite cookies are the chocolate chip cookies my husband makes – he replaces some of the flour with hazelnut meal.

  7. Annamaria says:

My favourite cookies are supermarket brand chewy chocolate with milk and white chocolate chips.

    • cookie queen says:

Hi Annamaria! Your honesty astounds me. I will have to enter your name twice. Ha ha ha.
Please drop by and visit me, and collect your taster stack of cookies. Love, CQ xxxxxxxxx

  8. i love your white chocolade and something with nuts on it … one trip ponyexpress come to me 🙂 astrid

  9. Mitzi Woods says:

My favorite cookie would have to be the old fashioned chocolate chip, soft, with pecans. Anything with pecans in it is wonderful!

    • cookie queen says:

Mitzi – what can I say? I must admit, I only mix pecans with white chocolate, but they are the cat´s meow when it comes to nuts. xxxxxx

  10. Miss Woolf says:

Thank you for the chance to try Andy’s latest creation. Cookies… where do I start? I love cookies; big chewy chocolate chip ones with dried cranberries. And those stroopwaffels you find in the Netherlands, freshly made in the streets, yum yum. My favorite cookie scenario would be a whole bag to myself, a big cup of tea to dunk them in, a good book, sitting under a blanket on the sofa with my dog.
I’m definitely in the mood for cookies now…

    • cookie queen says:

Feel free to invite me. I will bring cookies and my own book. I lived in Amsterdam for a number of years. Stroopwafels fresh from the street? Unbeatable. The smell alone is divine.
      Thanks for commenting ……. xxxxxxxxx

  11. brie says:

Val- I loved this post…you had me laughing from start to finish….I love ALL cookies (and food in general actually!) but probably my favorite cookie ingredient would be vanilla (which I adore in my perfumes as well!). thanking your for your generosity with this draw!

    • cookie queen says:

      Hi Brie!
Got my vanilla as safely stored as my fragrances. I have nearly 18 litres at the moment and it makes me feel safe!! I use Tahitian, Mexican, and Madagascar Bourbon, depending on which cookie and/or my mood. Sometimes vanilla bean paste. I do not believe you can make a cookie without it. I chuck it in everywhere. Generously. It goes down well because you cannot get vanilla extract here. Not really. Only vanilla sugar. And that is for lightweights. I do not own a vanilla scent. Perhaps I should look for one. I smell like vanilla all the time anyway.
      Hugs xxx

      • brie says:

Sounds like you really don’t need a vanilla perfume!!! You can just apply your vanilla extracts!
I would love to be around your house…must smell great and the cookies…WOW!!

      • cookie queen says:

Oh absolutely. More than welcome. I am sure we could set up a business together. Cookies, healing oils, yoga and bikes. Sounds like a winning combination. xxxxxxxx

    • cookie queen says:

No Brie – not house. I have a shop. It´s my business. 🙂

  12. mridula says:

oh what a lovely giveaway. My cookie of choice has always been ginger molasses. thank you.

    • cookie queen says:

      Mridula!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have remotivated me to finish perfecting a ginger molasses vegan cookie I have bee working on. Awesome. Good luck with the draw.
      Love CQ xxx

  13. Janet Hoover says:

Macadamia nuts. The only time white chocolate chips work for me is with macs.

    • cookie queen says:

Evening Janet! I think nuts only work well with white chocolate. Personal taste, but also years of experience. Don´t like nuts in brownies either. Scream. CQ xxxxxx

  14. tomatefarcie says:

    A true American…peanut butter

    • cookie queen says:

      Hi Tomarefarcie!

I adore peanut butter cookies. I didn´t think that they would be liked too much here, as peanut butter is not part of the culture here BUT I was wrong. They love them. I make them fat and chewy and stuff them full of chopped Milka chocolate. Hand cut. And Mexican vanilla. Awesome Yum.
      Cheers. CQ xxxxxxx

  15. Tara says:

Love chocolate chip with lots of pecans! I tweeted your giveaway message. 🙂

Thanks for the chance to win a sample of Noontide petals!

    • cookie queen says:

      Tara – Evening!

Thanks for taking the time to comment! White chips?? I hope so! Pecans, as I said earlier. Second to none. Good luck with the draw. xxxxxx CQ

  16. rosiegreen62 says:

I love cookies, all different kinds. The first one that came to mind today is Snickerdoodles. The last time I made them instead of cinnamon sugar I used a spice mix for Speculoos cookies from the Boisdejasmin blog. It was an amazing cookie. Also my favorite cookie ingredient is butter.

    • cookie queen says:

      Hi there Rosie!

Unless making a vegan cookie, and I am in the middle of one, I only use butter. Unsalted. No exceptions. Ever. Speculoos cookies are delicious. I am ashamed to admit, that despite seeing recipes for Snickerdoodles a million times, I have not made them yet. I need to remedy that. Good luck! xxxxxxxxxx

  17. Kafkaesque says:

Thanks for the thoughtful giveaway. My favorite cookie would probably be chocolate chip. Actually, the real answer would be RAW cookie dough of any variety. LOL. Frozen cookie dough….. mmmmm. 🙂

    • cookie queen says:

      Kafkaesque!

I wondered when somebody would mention raw cookie dough. I mean, basically I live off the stuff. I need to test the dough at every stage. Plus the vanilla always tastes best in raw cookie dough. I wish I had a Giveaway for everyone, because I would. Thoroughly enjoy your blog.
Watched Der Prozess a while ago in Munich. 😉
      Bussis CQ xxxxx

      • Kafkaesque says:

The Trial is one of my favorites!! As for eating endless amounts of raw cookie dough for work, how utterly fun! It’s really interesting what you said about the vanilla because it sounds almost like you think the taste is purer and clearer when uncooked. If so, that may explain why I prefer the raw dough. Well, one reason, at least. LOL. Your work sounds like so, so much fun, btw! 🙂 🙂

      • cookie queen says:

I make each one by hand, and mill my own grains. (The cookies are all a mixture of spelt and wheat) You gotta be crazy …….. 😉

  18. Adam Griffiths says:

Love me a moist chewy Peanut Butter cookie. Thanks for the opportunity to score a Tauer sample! I’ve been meaning to order a Discovery set for sometime now…

    • cookie queen says:

Adam – some things should not be put off. Order one anyway. They are so beautiful. It is hardcore perfume ….. but isn´t that what we love???? Penut butter is of course faro!
      Hugs
      CQ xxx

  19. Nancysg says:

My favorite cookie is “Powder Sugar Cookies” They use powdered sugar instead of regular white, and the texture becomes like eating finely ground sand. Sounds horrible, but the light grittiness is what makes them amazing.

    • cookie queen says:

      Hi Nancy !

Will have to give them ago. It is so hard to find time for new ones, with all the ones I make in the shop. But I will. And then I will get back to you. Thanks for popping by and commenting. Your name will be in my dead armadillo. 😉
      Love
      CQ xxx

  20. RuthF says:

I’ll go for oat cookies with pecans, orange zest and a little pinch of salt!

    • cookie queen says:

Oh yeah! Ruth. Mmmm. Sounds good. No raisins?? You are indeed in the deceased armadillo. CQ xxxxxxxx

  21. Kandice says:

Since I love chocolate, big chunks of chocolate are my favorite ingredient. They are especially good in creamy peanut butter cookies. My second favorite cookie would be oatmeal with cranberries and coconut. Well darn it – now I’m craving cookies! I’d love the chance to try the perfume – thanks for the chance!

    • cookie queen says:

Well, as Portia mentioned I do make rather a splendid peanut butter cookie, exactly as you describe it. I don´t work with coconut because it sucks here. It´s all over-dried and at least a decade old. Yuck. I remember in the States you got it desiccated in cans – now that was good.
Good luck in the draw. xxxx CQ

  22. Rene Groyer (@ReneGroyer) says:

Love chocolate chip, pecan nut, cranberries, dates and some of the organic vanilla powder I recently bought.

    • cookie queen says:

Hey Rene! That sounds good. I like to use dates instead of sugar in brownies. Haven´t tried them in cookies, but I may well do now!
      Love
      CQ xxx

  23. Ines says:

My favourite cookie would be any chocolate one. 🙂 Bringing me to my favourite incredient – dark cocoa (or chocolate).

  24. galeritonic says:

Enjoyed reading your post here and would love to experience Tauer..I beat my drum to dark chocolate ginger cookies on select moments of lust.

    • cookie queen says:

Recipe please. Experience Tauer. Exactly. That is what one does with a Tauer fragrance.
      Love, CQ xxxx

  25. Alessandro says:

My favourite is definitely chocolate chips cookies

    • cookie queen says:

      Hi Alessandro!!

I wonder if chocolate chip cookies would still be here after a nuclear wipe out? Like roaches? Lol. I reckon they would be. Because they are absolutely the best!!! xxxxxxxxxxx

  26. galeritonic says:

Vanilla, vanilla, vanilla – cookies, perfume, wine, icecream. Heavenly

    • cookie queen says:

      Vanilla – oooooooommmmmmmm – vanilla – oooooooommmmmmm
      Repeat as necessary. CQ xxxxx
I love Benjamin Zephaniah. Saw him several times at different
festivals and events in my youth. xxx

  27. Nancy C. says:

I don’t eat cookies much anymore but when I do it’s gotta be the chocolate chip.

  28. mollyrousse says:

My favorite cookie is a cookie with almonds. I like the bitter-sweet taste. And sometimes biscuits with jam. Thanks for the draw.

    • cookie queen says:

      Hi Mollyrousse!

I like to bake traditional Austrian vanilla kipferl with almonds at Christmas time. They are sooooo good. And biscuits with jam. I remember those from when I was a kid. Yep … you´re entered! With a hug. CQ xxx

  29. carminemilk says:

I love chocolate chip as well as many. But my special passion is cookies with cocoa sprinkled by sugar white little stars. And I always buy it when I visit my grandpa.

  30. cookie queen says:

    Carminemilk!

What a gorgeous idea. Little white sugar stars. I am off to London soon, and will seek some out.
Mmmmmm. Thanks for the tip. Love, CQ xxx

  31. cookie queen says:

    Hi Nancy 🙂
The perfect occasional cookie for the non-cookie eater. Now and again one must.
    Love
    CQ xxxx

  32. PearlFog says:

Peanutbutter cookies are my favourite, nice and salty 🙂 Perfume sounds great too! Thanks 🙂

    • cookie queen says:

      Morning PearlFog!

Peanut butter is fab. I make them full of chocolate chunks, or salted cashews, almonds or pistachios. Mega yum …….. Your name is in my armadillo, which incidentally is getting rather full. It is only small armadillo. xxxx CQ

  33. poodle says:

It’s hard to go wrong with chocolate. Chocolate chips, cocoa powder, any kind of chocolate in a cookie is always a good thing.

    • cookie queen says:

      Poodle!!

I am so glad you dropped by. I hoped that you would. You are right. Can´t really go wring with chocolate. And I must say I am very good to all my customers!! I NEVER use chocolate chips. I cut all my chocolate by hand an only use Milka and Lindt. You are soooooo in the deceased armadillo. Hugs and busses, CQ xxxxxxx

  34. Undina says:

    My favorite cookie is rugelach.

No need entering me into the giveaway for the perfume (I’ve already won a sample) but is it possible to get into the cookie giveaway? 😉 I was good: I twitted the post AND shared it on FB!

    • cookie queen says:

Undina! I know that you are somewhere in the Bay area huh?? I am planning a trip to my family sometime in the next year. If I actually have any spare cash (!) it may well be in late autumn.
I would fly into San Francisco. I will bring you a whole bag of cookies. You will just have to meet me!! I dunno about sending cookies in the post so far. USA post is notoriously slow.
      CQ xxxxxxxx

      • Undina says:

        Dear Cookie Queen,
I was joking, I didn’t mean to impose with cookies. But I’d love to meet with you – with or without cookies 🙂 – if you come here (SFO is really close to where I live).

      • cookie queen says:

Oh my gosh!! Not imposing at all. I am serious. That is how I met Portia ….. with a bag of cookies!! Will keep you posted. I guess you are off to bed as I am off to the shop to start my dough …….. Wish I was in SFC 😦 xxxxxx

  35. lorraine says:

Well, I was going to say shortbread just to be different, but really, I love a densely chipped chocolate chip cookie. A great one really can’t be beat. Going to tweet now.

    • cookie queen says:

Hi Lorraine! Oh my gosh. I love shortbread. More than chocolate chip.(Now you know!!) Thanks for tweeting.
Off to make chocolate chunk cookies now ……. CQ xxxxx
