Eau Arpege Mist by Andre Fraysse for Lanvin 1927 (Vintage) + GIVEAWAY!

Hello Vintage frag Hounds,

Recently I was lucky enough to find this beautiful perfume and bottle on Etsy, it was a complete bargain and I bought a few other things at the same time.

Eau Arpege Mist by Lanvin 1927 (Vintage)

Eau Arpege Mist EtsyPhoto Stolen Etsy

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, aldehide, peach, orange bloom, honeysuckle, orris
Heart: Rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, coriander, sensitive plant, tuberose, violet, geranium
Base: Sandalwood, vetiver, patchoulis, vanilla, musk

The box (shown in picture) looks scuffed and worn in real life and I think the fragrance has kept its fresh colour due to being encased in the refillable case: meaning it has suffered no light damage. Mum had Arpege at one point, I think it may have been a gift, and I remember loving her in it. This is the mist and aged so the scent is slightly different but WOW!!

The fizzy, sparkling, slightly unreal growl of Eau Arpege Mist is both lavish, grand and feline. Honeysuckle can take over everything on my skin and it goes very urinous quite often, here is skirts disgusting and is completely in tune with the fruit and citrus, maybe the iris keeps it in check with its cool rooty earthiness? I don’t know but you would never in today’s world of fragrance pick this as made for a daughter’s 30th birthday by her mother, who called in André Fraysse and his helper Paul Vacher back in 1927. Jeannie Lanvin even let her daughter choose the name, Arpege, for arpeggio: from my blog reading I find it was so named because an arpeggio is trickling notes like a cascade of sound rather than chords which is the way Arpege is said to flow. You’ll notice the picture above LANVIN on the box above, legend has it that it’s Jeannie and her daughter preparing for a ball.

If you want to read about the notes do please jump to further reading, parsing this little beauty is beyond me. I want you to know that it feels like I’m a movie star when I wear this beautiful vintage Arpege. The flowers, herbs, spices, woods and grasses all combine to maker an incredible statement, that feels both womanly and iconic. If you ever need a spine stiffener then Arpege will do it for you. Ramrod straight back with a head just floating on your neck and hips that could whip the washing with their sweep, swoosh and sashay. Movie star glamour instantly, even for me!

There is always room for the new but don’t forget to remember the old, it tells us some stories of how we got here and what we’ve lost.

Lanvin Me Fragrance 2013 Ad Campaign

Yet again stolen a fresh and lovely advertising image from. art8amby

Released April 2013, Lanvin used a reprint image of Iselin Steiro by Steven Meisel from the mainline Spring Summer 2009 campaign.

Can’t wait to see if they have given us a masterpiece or an insult to our olfactory systems. Could this be the new Arpege? Maybe? A fragrance to stand the test of time and reformulation? Let’s cross our fingers.

Jeanne by Anna Flipo for Lanvin 2008

Hey Smelly Addicted,

The House of Lanvin has been in and out and there and back again more than once. We all remember, or still use, Arpege in one of its many forms or flankers, Marry Me or Rumeur. The boys may use Lanvin Homme, Lanvin Homme Sport, Oxygene or maybe even the new one Avante Guard. I think Lanvin is a victim of poor representation and brand management. Their fragrances are often excellent, bottles are interesting and usually have good heft, lovely sillage and scent bubble and stay for a good amount of time on my skin but the only place I seem to see them are in the discounters online where they can be bought for a song.

Jeanne by Lanvin 2008

Sometimes I like to order samples of things I see on the discount sites, just to see what I’ve missed. A great place to get really cheap mainstream samples is MyPerfumeSamples where I picked up this sample of Jeanne By Lanvin.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Blackberry, lemon, pear
Heart: Peony, freesia, raspberry, rose
Base: Sandalwood, amber and musk

A super sweet fruity floral is rarely my choice of scent unless it’s knock you down gorgeous with something unusual or freaky going on somewhere along the line. Jeanne by Lanvin is no great boundary pusher in my book and opens very sugar sweet modern youth fragrance, not much different to a thousand others. Slightly fruit tingle-esque with a sizzling pear but then something extraordinary happens, in comes a lovely warm hit of amber and completely takes over the perfume for a couple of minutes and it is beautiful, then Jeanne goes back to being a soft fizzy whisper of a scent that is floral/clean more than anything else but with an amber warmth towards the end at about 2-4 hours depending on my movements and the day. I find that the moisturiser creates a perfect stabiliser and gives the fragrance more depth and a longer lifespan and it is dirt cheap.

Photo Stolen polyvore

Jeanne by Lanvin is a perfect first grown up fragrance to take a girl from the celebrity scents to the next level. Enough like them to not cause outrage but with a bit of complexity to keep it interesting. Also a good work scent, you would have to pour the bottle over yourself to get it to skunk levels. Not sexy but a quiet sweet fruity scent; if that floats your boat then this is a great choice. I liked the amber moment and the middle, soft and nearly vanilla sweet accords, enough to buy a small bottle and some moisturiser for those days where I want to be softly fragrant but not challenged in any way.

Towards 10,000 IVs, Cartier Film

Hiya Everyone,

We made our 6,000th individual view (IVs) over the weekend! For anyone who’s run a blog for a long time that doesn’t seem like a lot but we only started in mid March 2012. Individual views (IVs) is the amount of separate people who’ve viewed the site, each day you can make a new entry. If you come to the site and look at 10 pages you count as 10 in page views, only 1 in individual views. So you can imagine there were a few rowdy Woo Hoo’s when we noticed it had clicked over.

This got me to thinking, can we make it to 10,000 individual views (IVs) by the end of June? On stats it should be doable; March we did around 700, April just over 2000, May we’ll fly over the 3,000 mark. So then the CHALLENGE for June is to do 4,000 individual views (IVs). If we hit 10,000 IVs all up in June I think there should be a SUPER DOOPER GIVEAWAY.

Please enjoy.

I hope you loved it and on a completely different track I re-found this wonderful quote on the weekend and thought it would be fun to share it.
