Eau Arpege Mist by Andre Fraysse for Lanvin 1927 (Vintage) + GIVEAWAY!

Hello Vintage frag Hounds,

Recently I was lucky enough to find this beautiful perfume and bottle on Etsy, it was a complete bargain and I bought a few other things at the same time.

Eau Arpege Mist by Lanvin 1927 (Vintage)

Eau Arpege Mist EtsyPhoto Stolen Etsy

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, aldehide, peach, orange bloom, honeysuckle, orris
Heart: Rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, coriander, sensitive plant, tuberose, violet, geranium
Base: Sandalwood, vetiver, patchoulis, vanilla, musk

The box (shown in picture) looks scuffed and worn in real life and I think the fragrance has kept its fresh colour due to being encased in the refillable case: meaning it has suffered no light damage. Mum had Arpege at one point, I think it may have been a gift, and I remember loving her in it. This is the mist and aged so the scent is slightly different but WOW!!

Тигр на отдыхеPhoto Stolen wPapers.ru

The fizzy, sparkling, slightly unreal growl of Eau Arpege Mist is both lavish, grand and feline. Honeysuckle can take over everything on my skin and it goes very urinous quite often, here is skirts disgusting and is completely in tune with the fruit and citrus, maybe the iris keeps it in check with its cool rooty earthiness? I don’t know but you would never in today’s world of fragrance pick this as made for a daughter’s 30th birthday by her mother, who called in André Fraysse and his helper Paul Vacher back in 1927. Jeannie Lanvin even let her daughter choose the name, Arpege, for arpeggio: from my blog reading I find it was so named because an arpeggio is trickling notes like a cascade of sound rather than chords which is the way Arpege is said to flow. You’ll notice the picture above LANVIN on the box above, legend has it that it’s Jeannie and her daughter preparing for a ball.

If you want to read about the notes do please jump to further reading, parsing this little beauty is beyond me. I want you to know that it feels like I’m a movie star when I wear this beautiful vintage Arpege. The flowers, herbs, spices, woods and grasses all combine to maker an incredible statement, that feels both womanly and iconic. If you ever need a spine stiffener then Arpege will do it for you. Ramrod straight back with a head just floating on your neck and hips that could whip the washing with their sweep, swoosh and sashay. Movie star glamour instantly, even for me!

Bellodgia EdP, Parfum & Oil by Ernest Daltroff for Caron 1927

Hey Hey Stink Monkeys,

Do you ever fall so in love with a fragrance you want to own EVERY available strength and vintage? I have a couple of fragrances that that has been the case for me. Guerlain Shalimar, CHANEL No 5, Versace Blonde, Boucheron Trouble and

Bellodgia EdT, EdP, Parfum & Oil by Ernest Daltroff for Caron 1927

Bellodgia FragranticaPhoto Stolen Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Carnation and rose
Heart: Jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and violet
Base: Musk, clove, vanilla and sandalwood.

As you may have guessed by the heading I have different versions of this amazing fragrance. This is the order I fell in love with them: EdT, EdP, Parfum and then by luckiest chance the original Oil. I will often layer Bellodgia with oil on wrists, parfum behind knees and EdP on chest, my EdT has about 2 sprays left and never gets pulled out any more, though I did just order a new 30ml one with the purple leather coating, YUMMY. Each one is from a different vintage by the smell of them and the oil is absolutely killer, even the slightest scraping will keep me deeply fragrant with sillage that fills a room in moments. You can smell it on your person but it stealthily creeps around a room until it takes over and becomes the rooms scent, then it lingers for hours.

Funnily, Bellodgia was released as a softer, less in your face sister to much of the Caron work. Nowadays you would be hard pressed to find a young girl willing to be so fragrant and bombastic. My how times have changed. Though Bellodgia has been reformulated there is still a very good nod to the oldest of my collection, the oil which was completely sealed when I received it so not too much air let in to destroy it. I love the opening, so rich with promise and pungent. The crisp minty crackle of carnation cutting through the floral bouquet and vanilla. There is a real rose note that is both spiced and sweet, I think the bouquet is amped towards making a lifelike but still cryptic version of rose, the cloves from the base help too.

I don’t really get the white flowers in the heart but I think that’s my terrible nose, the rose is superstar on my skin and the violet, earthy green and fresh, seems to serve as a counterpoint rather than a feature. Then into the warm and deep dry down where I think Bellodgia really comes into its own, the musk (and I think the oil has the real deal) vanilla and woods all seem to lay a deep downbeat while this fantastical spicy rose maintains its hold for hours and hours.

Do you want to feel like a fabulous flapper, a naughty, nascent beauty ready to pounce upon an unsuspecting world? Bellodgia will definitely put you in the mood, no matter how unlikely we are ever to fit into that category. Dreaming is free.

Miss Balmain (Vintage) by Germaine Cellier for Balmain 1967

Hello Glorious Stink Monkeys,

I have to tell you that before I fell down the fragrant wormhole I only knew Pierre Balmain as a fashion designer, not a perfume house. We looked at his work in the history section of the fashion course I studied, can’t remember a thing except his name and that while I was not blown away by his work it was solid and he was clearly talented in a banal, perfectly proportioned, no statement except “I can afford Balmain” kinda way. For a student of fashion he just didn’t push enough boundaries.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Aldehydes, coriander, gardenia, lemon, green notes
Heart: Carnation, narcissus, orris root, jasmine, rose, lily-of-the-valley
Base: Leather, amber, patchouli, coconut, oakmoss, vetiver, tonka bean

I love the squeally, nail varnish and green first few seconds. They are enough to blow the back of your head off and I wonder if the top has slightly gone askew. After about a minute though we settle into a fresh green citrus and herbal extravaganza that would have most non perfumistas in the current fragrance climate running for a shower, My little 4ml sample looks exactly like the photo above but the juice is even darker and I’ve decanted it into an atomiser so I get the effect it would have had in the bottle tears ago.  After 5 minutes I get a gloriously heady white flower, OMG if only this is how Miss Balmain stayed for hours. This is exactly how I want to smell forever, when I get to this point in the fragrance I wish the same thing every time.

Photo Stolen milliedeel

The bouquet floats in winding its way through the spectacular whites as a cool, sharp, earthy floral. This is take no prisoners perfume and at this point there comes an human, bed head, morning breath hint under the flowers giving it guts and growl. So comfortable and so raunchy. I can’t even imagine wearing this to an office nowadays but step back in time and it was considered a fresh and girly version of perfume for the young woman on the go.

After about 3 hours I am all creamy leather, amber and earth with a touch of the cool bouquet rising faintly above on and off into the foreseeable future, not really disappearing from my skin entirely until my shower next morning.

Photo Stolen liveauctioneers

I have not yet tried a current incarnation of Miss Balmain to do a comparison test but will come back and add my thoughts when and if I do. There are a couple of ml left in my atomiser in case.

FragranceShop has 100ml $36
ThePerfumedCourt has Vintage Miss Balmain Parfum $12/ml

For some reason this was not taken as a serious contender by the other blogs I read. I don’t know why, it has everything a Vintage perfume lover could ever ask for, classified as a floral chypre with anamalic undertones it really is magic. I am thinking I’d like to try the current Miss Balmain formulation but no sample sites have it. I can wait, but at $36 probably not for too long.

Do you have a vintage fave that few people talk about or reviewers have overlooked. Tell me in the comments, I love reading about new stuff. Just as an added extra I have given you the Balmain latest runway effort which is SO 1980’s that I fair fainted. AWESOME.
Till tomorrow, be good to yourselves,

Femme (Vintage) by Edmond Roudnitska for Rochas 1943 LIVE Video Sniff

Hey Fumies,

I wonder if Edmond Roudniska is rolling in his grave? My mate David (Margeaux) and I take on one of the world’s most enduring fragrances in a LIVE Video Sniff! We are only enthusiasts and the thrill of being in front of a camera coupled with a few beverages, a group of the APJ crew together and our own madness means that we completely forget much of what we wanted to say, some of what we really should have said, and then mangle what we do say and add in bullshit to boot. Your mission, should you choose to take it, is to unravel the truth and tell us because we are up shit creek without a boat, let alone a paddle; and yes, I do know that Edmond Roudnitska was the creator, Edward Roudnitska is a figment of my crazed, and deranged by sniffing too much perfume, brain.

Photo Stolen Fragrantica

What I can tell you is that we had a really fabulous time making this. Surely that counts for something. If you’d like to see a review of the currently available for next to nothing reformulation that is still wickedly wonderful then Femme by Edmond Roudnitska for Rochas 1943 <<JUMP

Photo Stolen Fragrantica

As always I have to thank my BFF for her video and editing skills which she gives up her precious spare time to do, THANKS KATH!! Also a shout out to Jin who makes it blog ready and lastly I need to thank Margeaux for being an excellent fellow with such a great personality and a great mate, not to mention that he is a complete SPUNK!!

Do please enjoy our frolic through Vintage Femme by Rochas.
Till we see you tomorrow we wish you only good stuff.
Loads of love,
